My Letter to the Editor
I recently submitted the following to the editorial board of the Sioux City Journal, in response to the criticisms, not only launched by them, but by pundits, on both sides of the aisle, across the nation, against the Northwest Iowa Tea Party’s production of a controversial billboard. I thought you would benefit from reading my thoughts.
We Must Not Forget the Voters Responsible for Hitler!
by Rev. Cary K. Gordon
When President Hindenburg died in office, Hitler borrowed credibility from him and enjoyed support from a whopping 84.6% of the population!
Believing it was the role of their government to manipulate family economics was WW2 Germany’s first error. Their second was to be driven in popular rage by that same love of money, ignoring the trouncing of their own constitution by Hitler, and voting through a referendum, in popular madness, to anoint him as supreme ruler.
The German people DIDN’T elect Hitler BECAUSE THEY HATED JEWS AND DESIRED GENOCIDE! They elected him because they believed he would be “good for the economy.” Not unlike voters in our own recent elections, the German people succumbed to a shallow “single-issue voter” mentality…ardently secularist and unwilling to discuss any issue of politics that did not directly relate to their wallets.
If we find the recent Tea-Party billboard offensive, because it serves as a recollection of old-world German political “priorities”, it is a GOOD THING! We should ALL BE OFFENDED to know that the PRIMARY reason the evil Adolf Hitler was elected to power, was due to his supporter’s preoccupation with socialist redistribution of wealth schemes. The love of money has always been “the root of all evil.” Jesus was right!
Socialism was wrong for Germany – then, and it’s wrong for America – today! Voting and non-voting citizens bear full responsibility for any nationally realized evil. Our President is little more than a reflection of what we’ve become as a people! Perhaps America should repent?
