Living in Bizzaro

Trustee, PeaceMakers Institute

Just this morning a friend of mine told me of the upside down world Superman occasionally found himself trapped in. An alternate time space continuum, “Htrea”, (Earth spelled backwards) was the intentional and purposeful opposite of earth.

In this world, gold and diamonds lay in the gutters, while coal, cigarette butts and gobs of chewed gum were priceless.

Later, as I read the news release about Happy Time Daycare in Waulkee, Iowa, I couldn’t help but think of Htrea.

The news release, which can be read in its entirety at:  http://bit.ly/o4ur2i speaks in shocked terms about the daycare’s amazing demands communicated in a recent letter to its employees.

Demands such as:
·         No premarital or extramarital sex
·         No use of alcoholic beverages
·         No viewing of pornography
·         No cursing
·         No homosexual conduct
·         Attend church regularly

A teacher currently employed by the Daycare said “My thought is this can’t be happening, this isn’t real, this is out of the blue”. She said she was “upset” with what was communicated in the letter and was seeking other employment.

What was at one time considered to be moral and upstanding conduct is now viewed as astonishingly abnormal behavior.

You and I are living in a society that is the spiritual equivalent of Superman’s alternate universe. A world in which up is down, right is wrong, and black is white. Welcome to Bizzaro, a world in which truth is not something you discover, it is something you create.

This is not new. The Bible speaks of another society long ago where “every man did what was right in his own eyes”. (Judges 17:6) The problem with this is the fact that man’s moral compass is broken.  Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.”

The necessary adjustment of our compass is only accomplished through a new birth into the Kingdom of God. When this happens, we will find ourselves released from the confusion of this world and enabled to see things “right side up.”

Prepare yourself though, for as you begin to live as God intended, you will be rejected by the inhabitants of Bizzaro. Never fear…you are not alone. The King of the Kingdom has promised to “never leave you nor forsake you.”  And the reality is: truth is stronger than lies, light is stronger than darkness, and life is stronger than death.

I applaud Happy Time Daycare’s bold stand for morality. I have already sent the pastor an email expressing my gratitude and support. I encourage you to do the same. Their website is:www.pointofgrace.com/
