Honorable Presbyterians
In contrast with how “Amish Presbyterians” behave…Here’s an example of modern American Presbyterians who act in accord with their own historic and orthodox Christian roots:
A PROPOSAL TO RESTORE CHURCH-STATE RELATIONS & EVANGELIZE THE CIVIL MAGISTRATE IN VANCOUVER-PORTLAND AREA
BECAUSE God established Old Testament Israel as a model for the nations to emulate in her obedience to the law of God (Dt. 4:6),
BECAUSE the New Testament church is commanded to disciple the nations (ethnos, best translated “cultures”, Mt. 28),
BECAUSE church and state appear as separate but cooperative institutions in the Bible (II Chr. 19),
BECAUSE the Bible depicts cultural leadership as shared jointly by leaders in church and state, with priests and Levites serving as legal counselors in the courts of law (Dt. 17),
BECAUSE leaders of church & state appear in the Bible as holding each other mutually accountable to the law of God (Neh. 9:38, II Chr. 24:4, I Kg 18:18),
BECAUSE of the many historical precedents, including Athanasius & Constantine, Ambrose & Theodosius, Alcuin & Charlemagne, Calvin in Geneva, Knox in Scotland, Cotton in Massachusetts,
BECAUSE these Biblical imperatives for elders are operative regardless of the average spiritual condition of families in the church, (II Chr. 27:2)
BECAUSE these Biblical imperatives cannot be ignored or postponed without risk of further provoking the wrath of God till “there is no remedy”, (II Chr. 36:16)
BECAUSE these Biblical imperatives have been ignored by the church for several centuries due to a radical Enlightenment doctrine of separation of church & state,
BECAUSE this neglect has resulted in the current calamitous state of affairs in which the judgment of God is poured out increasingly on American culture, (I Kings 11:1)
THEREFORE it is proposed….
that Westminster Presbyterian Church develop a plan for restoring church-state relations in accordance with the Bible and seek to evangelize, instruct, and otherwise serve local civil magistrates,
that educational efforts be launched in the church to include a session or sessions in the men’s discussion group and instruction from the pulpit,
that an internet search be conducted to identify anybody else who might already be doing this to avoid “reinventing the wheel.”
that a weekend seminar be planned with instruction and ideas presented by Christian magistrates from the local community,
that a plan of action be formulated based on the above since faith/prayer without works is dead.
